Saturday. It just has a great sound, doesn't it?

It's Saturday. And it's fairly mild. A great day to get outside. Go for a walk, get some fresh air. Take some deep, cleansing breaths. Walk by the water, in the park, go hiking.

I do have to work but that's not a bad thing. I am grateful for work. I know during these past few years with everything being somewhat chaotic and changing, work has helped me create a routine and given me an outlet for my energy and brain. Along with the gym. I look at work as a great thing and I am a firm believer that those who work later into life and keep their brains busy will live longer.

I started with my usual routine this morning as I talked about in my previous post. I will soon do a few stretches and planks and probably some calf raises before I jump in the shower. I love doing calf raises. You feel it all the way to your butt if you do it right! Fantastic! When I'm doing strength moves, I actually visualize that muscle getting firm. I love the burn and the feel of it. Unlike cardio which makes you sweat and is wonderful, the strength moves just have this empowering feel about them. And warming your muscles and stretching your body out has this amazing, lightening feeling too.

Dinner last night was chicken, a baked sweet potato with honey and cinnamon (DELICIOUS) and kale. I am a big kale fan. It's superfood. Kale is packed with antioxidants, which help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body. Some research suggests kale helps reduce the risk of certain cancers. And one cup contains more than 100% value of vitamins A, C and K. Many people don't like it because of the bitter. It's similar to Brussels Sprouts (same family). You have to get the bitter out. I steamed mine in chicken broth and put salt, black pepper and red pepper flake on it. If you cut it very small, it can take most of the bitter out, just an FYI. And if you still can't stand it, throw it in a soup!

As a girl growing up in Oregon, my grandparents grew kale and we would have it all the time. Now, it's trendy! :)

Breakfast will be a whole grain tortilla with raw, unsalted almond butter and honey and cinnamon on it. I roll it up. I also have some blueberries I will eat with them.

Lunch will be my beloved spinach salad piled high with veggies and balsamic.

Tonight I am going out for my friend Jessie's birthday. She's the Lucy to my Ethel. We have a very similar sense of humor and personality. It's so important to have these kindred spirits in life. I feel like "soul mates" are all around us. Male and female. Kindred spirits, buddies, whatever you might call them. They are there for us. You might not be able to see them all the time because of life being busy for all but you just pick up where you left off, no questions asked. :) This has been postponed since the blizzard Connecticut got about a month ago. Mother nature is being kind to us today!! So I will go out and indulge a bit tonight. Appetizers, drinks. And then hitting the gym heavy tomorrow!! All about balance, my friends.

It was a beautiful sunrise today. One thing on my bucket list is to see a sunrise at Acadia National Park in Maine. At 1,532 feet, Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is the highest point along the North Atlantic Seaboard and is the first place to view sunrise in the United States. I need to get there one day and get a photo of that. Until then, this one isn't too shabby! Have a lovely day everyone.

God bless,
Tami
